New Abilities

3 min read
Thought I'd document most of the new abilities I've made for my Fakemon so far. An asterisk denotes an ability which would more than likely be exclusive to that Fakemon:

Accelerate - This Pokémon's speed is boosted by 50% in its first turn on the field
Aerodynamic - Increases speed when hit by a Flying- Type move
Amplifier - Powers up this Pokémon's sound-based moves
Audiophile - This Pokémon heals when hit by a sound-based move
Bad Omen - Lowers the foe's Special Defence when entering battle
Boiling Point - Halves the damage taken from Water- and Ice- Type moves
Bully - Increases the damage of its attacks against Pokémon which are smaller (as denoted by the Pokédex)
Cleaner - Removes entry hazards when sent into battle
Combustible - Hurts the foe when this Pokémon is hit by a Fire- Type move
Contaminate - Poisons foes who consume a held item while this Pokémon is on the field
Cranky - Sharply raises Attack after waking up
Detritivore - Heals when hit by a Ground- Type move and when it goes underground
Enchantress - Prevents Pokémon of the opposite gender from switching out
Famine* - Prevents the foe from healing
Fearless - Raises the Pokémon's Attack and Special Attack when sent out in place of a fainted teammate
Fountain Gift - Heals its ally in the rain
Gold Honour - Increases the power of its move if it hits first
Inflation* - Raises this Pokémon's Attack above 33% health, but lowers it below
Jubilant - Raises this Pokémon's Attack in harsh sunlight
Materialist - Raises this Pokémon's Attack if it is holding a held item
Mineralize - Converts Normal- Type moves into Rock- Type moves
Momentum - Increases the power of a move if it was used last turn
Night Wings - Contact with the foe may put them to sleep
Petulant - Sharply raises the Pokémon's Attack if its held item is stolen, switched or knocked off
Quicksand - When this Pokémon faints, the foe is damaged too
Red Rage* - Increases its Attack against foes whose Pokédex colour is 'red'
Rigid Body - Lowers the Pokémon's Speed but raises its Defence in harsh sunlight
Royal Heir - Inherits the stat changes of a fainted ally it is sent out in place of
Scavenger - Receives the same effects of the foe when they consume a berry
Sensor - Raises accuracy and gives immunity to accuracy drops, but takes more damage from sound-based moves
Shadow Proxy* - While this Pokémon is above 25% health, its shadow fights for it
Shock Absorber - Reduces the damage taken from moves with a high base power
Sleep Walker - Can still use attacking moves at 80% damage while asleep
Slumberous - This Pokémon can always fall asleep, irrespective of Worry Seed, Taunt etc.
Solid Stance - Reduces the damage taken from moves it is switched into
Swordsman - Powers up sword/blade/slash moves, Swords Dance gives a +3 boost
Symmetry - Changes to its Att or Sp.A are copied in its Def or Sp.D respectively, and vice versa
Tangled Vines - Contact with the foe lowers their Speed
Turbulence* - Slightly damages foes who switch in
Unsettle - Prevents the foe from falling asleep
Visor - Prevents taking damage from weather, and extra damage inhibited by sunlight/rain
Woolly Coat - Raises Sp.D in Hail

I didn't know I had so many! There are more, too, and I may change some of these

So when the first main batches of Gen VII Pokemon were revealed I remember being slightly underwhelmed by some of the designs

To be honest, I still stand that some designs are a little off, but I've learned to really appreciate - what I think - is the new angle Gamefreak took to designing the new batch.

One thing in particular I really appreciate is the amount of personality and character each one has - and the official descriptions on the Pokemon website (which are much more extensive than the generic in-game Pokedex entries) showcase how fleshed out each of these Pokemon are with regards to their personality, their behaviour and their roles within nature

I still have my old favourites like Lapras and Drifblim which have perfectly fine designs, but now I like the extra steps taken by the designers to invest the new Pokemon with memorable personalities and characters.

I guess it's given me less of a focus on designing pretty Fakemon

I've also noticed I haven't uploaded a new Fakemon in five months... so hopefully that should change some time

Happy Halloween

So with the three uploads today, I've finally finished uploading all 116 fakemon in the Tenjoh Dex as well as all the characters!

It's pretty funny seeing an old journal of mine dated November 2014 where I celebrated uploading 74... at least I got there in the end.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback, I really appreciate it. I think I'll carry on going back here and there updating some of the designs which need some love.

I've got lots of work on now, but I'll hopefully be back soon to crack on with finishing the Ovaro Dex.

Thanks again :)

So I didn't intend to upload this much today but I couldn't stop drawing (which was especially convenient given the amount of work I need to do) and I couldn't wait

However at this point I've uploaded 102/116 of the Tenjoh Dex, which is a point which I thought I'd never reach so I'm pretty happy! Now it's just the final straight with some pesky pseudo-legends/legendaries to do

Thanks as ever for the watches, faves and kind words, I didn't think my colourless lined paper sketches would be so warmly received

Mass Update

Mass update.

I decided to stop faffing around with gradual reveals and just upload a lot of spare stuff I had.

Although I've yet to finish uploading fakemon from my first region, this new batch introduces the second region/pokedex I designed: the Ovaro dex.

The Ovaro region has more American influences, and the dex itself was largely inspired by the fifth generation and was essentially a test to myself to see if I could make a Pokedex without any cross-gen references.

As ever, thanks for all the comments, watches and favourites

Ciao
